SunRail is Rolling! New Monorail Planned

  • May 22, 2014

SunRail is now a reality! For the last few years the buzz around Orlando, and Central Florida in general, has been about the new light rail system that will connect DeLand in Volusia County to Poinciana in Osceola County. Riders will be able to leave their cars at home and ride the rails to various points of interest including Downtown Orlando and Winter Park. This is great for us here at the Vista Cay Resort because in the past guests have found it difficult to get downtown or to north Orlando during peak hours as Interstate 4 tends to back up during rush hour.

Guests can now park their cars at the Sand Lake Road station and take SunRail one stop north to Downtown Orlando to enjoy more of the excellent dining and entertainment options the city has to offer. Winter Park’s famous Park Avenue is only 3 more stops from downtown. International Drive and the Orange County Convention Center area still offer a great variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment venue but this extra transportation option will help open up even more options for Vista Cay Resort guests. Some of our favorite places in Downtown Orlando are the Amway Center, Orange Avenue nightclub district, and trendy dining locations around Lake Eola. While the rail system currently operates during the week days, we are hoping for expanded weekend hours in the future.

Speaking of the future, the city of Orlando and Orange County released the news yesterday that Orlando will be the first city in the country to build a magnetic rail line! This planned rail link will take guests from Orlando International Airport to stops at the Orange County Convention Center, Florida Mall, and International Drive. This is excellent news for us at the Vista Cay Resort because we are adjacent to the Orange County Convention Center and will be a much less expensive transportation option from the airport. Our business travelers who generally do not rent a car while in Orlando will benefit greatly from this awesome new amenity. We hope you are as excited as we are for these new transportation options and hope you book a room with us at Orlando Resorts Rental soon!
